Facebook will top 500 million users by June. While more and more friends are getting in touch with each other via Facebook, we see the same rapid growth in the number of viruses and phishing schemes using Facebook as its vehicle to the end user. Studies have shown that Facebook, along with Ebay and Paypal become the most common targets for phishers.
Our labs and other malware monitoring organizations around the world have recently intercepted a large number of Facebook phishing messages. What makes these messages different is that, it is not limited to stealing the usernames and passwords of Facebook accounts, but also attempts to exploit a number of well-known vulnerabilities and install malicious software on the end user machine.
This type of phishing message usually has an eye catching subject such as "photos of sex with my new girlfriend" along with a message like "i remember you asked me for photos of sex with my new girlfriend. Take the url: upload.***.tld/vb087bl/". When users click on the link, they will be taken to the phishing page "auth.facebook.com.***.tld/vb087bl/LoginFacebook.php". On this page is a tiny iframe that tries to push malware to the end user via some well known software vulnerabilities.
Again, we recommend users of Facebook to use good judgement before clicking on suspicious messages.

Dave Mitchell at PC Pro has just published their review of the UTM5. He praises the UTM5's impressive set of security features for the price. In particular he notes the benefits of the UTM5's Sophos anti virus, Commtouch web filtering, and the use of Mailshell to handle spam, stating that it may be small but is 'big on security'.
Dave concludes that the UTM5 offers small businesses an impressive range of security measures at a 'price competitors will find impossible to match'. He awards the product a total of 5/6 stars, with 6/6 stars for its value for money.
He also put the UTM5 on PC Pro's A-List.

With reports such as this and this all over the Internet on Apple's latest iPhone getting leaked, Apple's next generation iPhone has certainly grabbed the spotlight lately. Not to be outdone, it seems spammers have been busy getting in on the action as well.
Rowland from Sophos blogs about a new type of spam that tries to trick users into entering in their information by offering them the chance to test the iPhone 4G.
Although to a majority of us it takes but 5 seconds to recognize that this is spam and not legit, I'm willing to bet that they're able to harvest their fair share of personal information from this one particular spam blast alone. The problem always traces back to a lack of spam/phishing awareness with the general Internet using population. People should be educated on the tell tale signs of spam to look for in an email. The sender/recipient email addresses, the links embedded in the email and most importantly - common sense.
Remember - if something sounds too good to be true it probably is.
