Capital Eye’s network environment consists of 17 Windows-based end user systems and a Windows-based server to host the company’s files and critical applications. During the normal course of business operations, the staff engages in a wide range of network communications, including Web browsing to locate other providers and to obtain insurance authorizations, email communications with current and prospective patients, and online banking and bill payment for the practice. Additionally, the doctors are active members of several professional discussion groups and forums to share ideas and discover new techniques.
As with most businesses, in addition to these legitimate business communications, the staff also uses its computers for personal communications. Social media sites, instant messaging clients, personal browsing, and streaming music from the Internet are also common.
